Transfers to and from Koh Lanta Island
There are many ways
that you can get to Ko Lanta. You could fly from Bangkok to either Phuket,
Krabi or Trang (which is the favoured way of many local people) and
then transfer here by bus or boat.
Alternatively, you could catch the train from Bangkok
to the South and transfer by bus from Trang, similarily, you could do
the same from Hat Yai to the North.
Listed below are the various ways/means that you can
make your way to Ko Lanta. travelling in Thailand is safe, fun and easy
and getting here will be part of your vaction and not a chore.

Most visitors to Ko Lanta are travelling
from Phuket by boat via Phi Phi Island. If you plan your trip well in
advance you can book the pick up from your hotel including the boat
ticket to Phi Phi Island with South Orchid Co., Ltd., a well-established
travel agency in Phuket Town.
Depending on the location of your hotel, you are picked
up between 07:30 and 08:00 for the boat leaving at 08:30 from a pier
in town. The boat arrives at Phi Phi Island around 10:30 and the connecting
boat departs from November to April at 11:30. Open pick-up trucks and
minibuses are waiting when the boat arrives about one hour later at
Saladan on the northern tip of Ko Lanta and transfer you to the chosen
resort. This transfer is offered free of charge by most resorts.
Should you arrive by morning flight with Thai Airways,
you will be too late already, to catch the boat to Phi Phi Island. You
can try to catch the second boat that is leaving from a pier in Phuket
Town at 13:30 and connects to the boat to Koh Lanta on Phi Phi Island
at 15:30. Should you need a transfer from the airport to the pier or
decide for a night on Phuket, South Orchid Co., Ltd. can arrange that
for you.
If you want to reach Koh Lanta on the same day, or you prefer
to go overland, a private transfer can be arranged by South Orchid Co.,
Ltd. In this case you are picked up at the airport or your hotel. The
distance is about 260 kilometres, includes 2 car ferries and the travelling
time is about 4 hours. Kindly note, that the car ferries are operating
only until 22:00 and pick up after 17:30 is not possible.
5 times per day a public bus is leaving from the bus station in Phuket Town to Koh Lanta Island, which is operated due to limitations on the ferries to Koh Lanta Island by minibus. It is neither picking up guests from Phuket Airport, nor from Krabi Airport. The transfer time is due to several stops along the way normally more than 5 hours. The bus ends in the southern part of Khlong Dao Beach and is not driving further on request of the passengers.
From May to October the boats from Phi Phi Island to Ko Lanta
do not operate due to strong winds and high waves in the monsoon season.
During this time the private transfer is the only choice to go to Ko
Lanta.
From November to April, the boats for the return trip leave
from Saladan Pier at 08:00 and 13:00 to arrive at Phi Phi Island about
one hour later. If the morning boat is in time, you might change to
the expressboat from Phi Phi Island to Phuket on the open sea and you
will arrive to Phuket Town around 11:00. There are Tuk-tuks and taxis
waiting to bring you to your hotel or the airport.
If you take the afternoon choice, you have to change the boat
at the pier on Phi Phi Island and will reach Phuket Town around 16:30.
If you would like to have the transfer to your hotel or Phuket Airport
arranged, you can order this service with South Orchid Co., Ltd.
Again, if you prefer to return on land, a private transfer
can be arranged for you that includes drop off at your hotel or the
airport. From May to October the private transfer is the only choice
to return.
The public minibus leaves from its station at the southern end of Klongdao Beach 5 times daily to Phuket bus station. This bus neither picks up passengers from Krabi Airport, nor from Phuket Airport. The transfer time is due to several stops along the way normally more than 5 hours.

From November to April only,
a regular boat operates between the town pier at Tonsai Bay of Phi Phi
Island and Saladan on Ko Lanta.
Departure from Phi Phi Island is at 11:30 and 15:30 and from Saladan
at 08:00 and 13:00. The journey takes a little over one hour and on
arrival to Ko Lanta, open pick-up trucks and minibuses are waiting to
transfer you to the chosen resort. This transfer is offered free of
charge by most resorts.
Starting from November through
April boats are leaving twice daily from the new passenger terminal
at Khlong Chilat that is located approx 3 kms west of the town centre
and about 8 kms from the bus terminal. Departure is at 10:30 and 13:30.
The boats arrive to Saladan at the northern tip of Ko Lanta about 2
hours later.
Open pick-up trucks and minibuses are waiting at the
pier to bring you to the chosen resort. This transfer is offered free
of charge by most resorts. For the return trip boats are leaving from
Saladan at 08:00 and 13:00.
From May to October the boats from Krabi to Ko Lanta
do not operate due to strong winds and high waves in the monsoon season.
During this time, public minibusse take over the transportation between
Krabi and Ko Lanta.
Throughout the year, public
minibuses are leaving daily at 12:00 opposite the train station. They
need about 2 hours to Ko Lanta, where they drop off customers in front
of the resorts along Khlong Dao Beach. Departure from Lanta is at 08:00.
From November through April additional busses will
leave at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 and 15:30 from Trang. Please book
your seat soon after your arrival at one of the tour counters on the
opposite side of the street, that passes in front of the train station.
Should you arrive or depart at different times, a private
transfer can be arranged through South Orchid Co., Ltd. that includes
pick up from Trang airport as well.
